so, who is talking now?

'Let's do a podcast, like right now'.  I guess this is what all those new media gurus out there seem to have declared after a Friday drinks' session. But what does a good audio news podcast looks sounds like? It sounds exactly like the Monocle Weekly and not like the NMA podcast. What I noticed with most podcasts that feature panels of experts or anyone eager to express a view is that most of the time you, the listener, cannot tell who is talking. After an initial introduction of the panelists, the conversation starts as if you are not there. If the dicusion was taking place on TV we would be regularly reminded of the speaker's name, title, etc. So why is there no equivalent audio cue? I guess it is down to the podcast host. Those with journalism training  like Tyler Brule, know the value of 1) maintaining an order in the discussion and 2) mentioning the name of the person about to talk. Simple stuff that every good host should know. So, next time you get that podcat together please let us now who is talking...
